WEST STREET

A narrow, shabby street of small shops and eating houses, amusement arcades and mock auction rooms. Narrow courts of ancient houses led from both sides of the street, Bunkers Hill, Chunters Gardens and West Street Cottages on the west, and Willow Cottages on the east. No buses used the street. The tower of St Pauls Church, which then stood well back from the street, is hidden from view.
