WEST STREET

The view from the bottom of the street looking north. The only visible widening is between Cranbourne Street and the Clocktower, where Burton’s building had been erected in 1928. Note the Kings Head Hotel on the left. From an earlier Inn on the same site as this, King Charles II is said to have made his escape to France in 1651. The Kings Head was demolished in 1932 to make way for the Sports Stadium.
