WEST STREET

A view from the air of this very narrow street, before any widening was thought of. Probably dating from the very early 1920s. To me, the chief interest is that it shows, on the left, the old cottages in Chuter’s Gardens, is just below St Pauls church, and below these, the backs of the tall houses in Little Russell Street. All these were swept away during the 1930s, and I have seen no other photographs of them. At the top the gleams of sunlight on the roadway indicate the entrances to North Street, Duke Street and Boyces Street.
