ST MARY’S PLACE.

A not too well known Victorian cul-de-sac, leading from St James’s Street to St Mary’s Church Hall, it took its name from the neighbouring church. It was built about 1855 by a local builder, J. B. Colbran, who occupied one of the houses himself. I had this photograph taken for me on 16 January 1966, as there was talk of redevelopment, but it was not until mid-1978, twelve years later, that this block of eleven houses was demolished, along with those seen in the following photograph.
